Nigerian security forces have allegedly
arrested a suspected internet fraudster. The fraudster has been accused of
stealing $6 million from people who thought were paying fees to apply for
government jobs. This is according to dailymail.co.uk.
According
to Emmanuel Okeh, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, said: “The suspect
Michael Ogun, is accused of using Facebook and other websites that appear to
represent government agencies, including customs, immigration and security. The
pages urged applicants to pay small fees to apply online for jobs.”
According
to reports, Okeh said the scam is one of many in Nigeria that are specifically
designed to extract small sums of money from desperate, unemployed citizens.
Conservative estimates put Nigeria’s unemployment rate at about 24 percent in a
nation of more than 160 million people.
